Both data and empirical evidence show that employees’ relationships across the organization are strained, and Mentees in our programs tell us that their peer connections are weakened and that it’s harder than ever to get things done across the enterprise – so, that’s not new.  But in our most recent interviews we are seeing a new manifestation of this reality, Mentees missing the big picture, literally not thinking big – unclear on their chains of command, thinking only one step ahead in their careers, lacking broad business perspective.  We hear it in their language, we see it in their career goals, and their managers tell us about it when we survey them.  Also compelling is that the trend is evident even when working at the Director and above level.  Our data represent the thoughts of women, but could this be an issue impacting all of our people?
